Circular Economy Strategy Delayed Until 2026

The Circular Economy Strategy for England is to be delayed until 2026 as confirmed by Emma Reynolds, Minister of State at Defra at the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) committee.

The Taskforce, established in December 2024, was created to develop England’s first framework for transitioning to a circular economy, with the strategy initially scheduled for launch this October. It is now expected to be unveiled in the new year and has been referred to as the ‘Circular Economy Growth Plan’.

Reynolds emphasised the government’s ongoing commitment to advancing the circular economy. Over the past year the taskforce has worked closely with industry, local authorities, and environmental groups to develop sector-specific roadmaps aimed at reforming material use and supply chains.
