09:15-10:40 – SESSION ONE: Can Plastic Circularity In The UK Ever Really Be Achieved?
Over the last decade, the UK has not matched plastic circularity ambitions with delivery. With ongoing market challenges and a continuing policy transition, what does success look like and how do we get there? Which systems, technologies and policies are the way forward, is any real progress being made, and what more is needed to protect the current infrastructure, nurture innovation and improve UK plastic circularity potential. This session unites industry leaders and experts to explore how the UK can build a resilient circular plastics industry. Topics include investment, market pressures and failures, policy, recycling, re-use, innovation, value chain co-ordination and actionable solutions for the future.
10:40-11:10 – Comfort Break
11:10-12:40 – SESSION TWO: Plastic Fact vs Plastic Fiction – The Plastic Paradox
Since Sir David Attenborough brought the issue of plastic pollution to the mainstream with the blue planet documentary 8 years ago, there has been a non-stop flow of evidence, opinions and research regarding the positioning and use of plastics, and impact on the environment. This session explores the current thinking and direction, the UK role in research and engagement, greenwashing (and hushing), material innovation and preferences, and how companies and organisations are striving to making a difference.
