RecyQMeter Tool: Application-Specific Quality of Recycled Plastics
Developed through research collaboration of Ghent University, Maastricht University and Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, The RecyQMeter tool aims to support researchers and industrial professionals in evaluating recyclate quality.
It relies on a comprehensive database called the application-property matrix and two established models for quality assessment. By inputting material properties, the tool generates a score between 0 and 1 that reflects the recyclates’ quality. Since this quality score varies across different applications, it offers valuable insights into optimal end-uses, considering all relevant material properties—from mechanical and optical to flow indices. Additionally, the tool incorporates market share data for each application, enabling users to estimate the substitution potential of recyclate. This feature helps address inconsistencies often found in life cycle assessment studies. The tool is available free of charge.
