WRAP Launch 2022-23 UK Plastics Pact Annual Report
On 13 November, Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) released the 2022-23 annual report on the progress of the UK Plastics Pact. The report details the steps made five years into the pact.
The report details the progress made in 2022, stating how there is likely going to be successes on targets: 1) eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging through redesign, innovation or alternative (reuse) delivery model; and 4) average 30% recycled content across all plastics packaging.
However, it is unlikely that by 2025 the remaining targets will be reached: 2) 100% of plastics packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable; and 3) 70% of plastics packaging effectively recycled or composted.
WRAP admits in the report that accelerated progress is needed to eliminate more problem plastic and scale up reuse and refill.
Work is currently underway to consider a successor agreement to the UK Plastics Pact.
