DEFRA Announce Further Engagement Following Consultation

Following the consultation on draft Producer Responsibility Obligations Regulations for Packaging and Packaging Waste, DEFRA has announced further industry engagement. This includes considering a narrow expansion to offsetting provisions to support producers who have developed closed loop recycling systems that meet the environmental aims of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

To support development of the policy, DEFRA is looking to gather further information on how different closed loop recycling models might operate and are also looking for specific concerns that might need to be considered to address as part of this work.

This includes an upcoming virtual workshop to discuss closed-loop systems in more detail and a stakeholder survey.
