VALPAK #sortitout programme

RECOUP is working with environmental compliance firm Valpak to deliver an education programme at schools on plastics recycling.

Following a successful pilot to launch the VALPAK #sortitout programme in Diss Norfolk, RECOUP plan to visit a number of schools with this exciting new material.

Pupils who take part in the #SORTITOUT campaign will take part in recycling games to help them to understand what they can recycle locally, and workshops that explain the journey plastic packaging undertakes when recycled – including the range of products that it can be made into. There will be an emphasis on discovering what can and cannot be recycled kerbside in their local area.

In addition, the team will work with the school to look at the recycling provisions within the schools and provide additional advice and support if required.

Anne Hitch, Citizen & Stakeholder Engagement Manager, RECOUP, who led the pilot workshops at Diss, said: “It was encouraging to have so many questions and so much input from the students – they were really keen to understand what happens to plastic packaging when recycled. We are delighted to be able to work with Valpak to deliver this message directly to young consumers and are looking forward to seeing the results of the ongoing input by the student recycling ambassadors.”

Steve Gough, Chief Executive of Valpak, said of the initiative: “Plastics are on everyone’s mind at the moment, and these workshops do an amazing job at helping the children to understand how plastics are made, how to identify the different types, and to give them ideas on how to keep plastic packaging out of the natural environment by recycling.”
