With 30 years of experience, RECOUP working with all stakeholders are able to offer a holistic view of the behaviour, insights and requirements to improve recycling.

In addition, the team focus on providing both proactive and reactive communications for RECOUP across both traditional and social media. Keep up with our work on social media. We are on the following channels:

Introducing RECOUP’s national plastics recycling initiative Pledge2Recycle Plastics

Pledge2Recycle Plastics works to reduce consumer confusion around plastic recycling and to improve the understanding of plastics. RECOUP act as a catalyst between the plastics resource and recycling industry and citizens. The team support consumer communications as well as providing education on what can be recycled locally and how best to prepare plastic packaging for collection. The Pledge2Recycle Plastics programme explains the recycling process and demonstrates a range of product made from recycled plastics.

Observational study

RECOUP conducted an observational study with Watch Me Think, supported by Marks & Spencer and Plastics Europe. Citizens independently recorded their behaviour when recycling via video and explained why they did what they did; commenting on their actions; and explaining their views on plastics packaging. Results showed that although plastics has received much media and public attention since the airing of ‘Blue Planet II’, consumers have yet to make any significant behavioural changes when it comes to recycling plastics. They remain confused and disconnected with the plastics recycling message. The report highlighted that labelling is critical for enabling consumers to make informed decisions in the recycling process, as well as the need for clear instructions from Local Authorities. The results of this report have allowed RECOUP to revise and build on previous programmes to improve the work they do in the High Street and develop resources to provide householders with clear recycling guidelines to help cut through the confusion.

The team, throughout 2019, have continued to collate knowledge and experience gained from delivering
a wide range of citizen and stakeholder engagement activities for the benefit of the plastics recycling value chain. Activities have ranged from the school’s education work with Nestlé Waters and Valpak; to the Welsh Air Show, Perkins Great Eastern Run, Norwich Science Fair as well as working with partner organisations such as Keep Scotland Beautiful.

The team continue to work in the background with members and other NGO’s. Being able to link RECOUP’s knowledge of the plastics recycling value chain with an improved understanding of citizen perspective has proved immensely valuable. The team specialize in bringing together stakeholders to a common goal of developing plastics recycling communications. There are many exciting opportunities for all parts of the value chain to become involved. Discover our new resource pack (aligned with Recycle Now and learn more about the work we do at http://www.pledge2recycle.co.uk.
