NHS Scrubs Donation

Date Published: Monday 20th April 2020

Every now and then we are afforded the opportunity where our past interests and hobbies can be put to real use and one of the RECOUP staff has been doing just that.  Anne Hitch has been putting her sewing skills to use to help supply NHS staff with colourful scrubs as part of a group in her local area.  The group For the Love of Scrubs are using a network of volunteers to supply headbands, washbags and scrubs using donations from businesses and the community.  The garments have been made using either unwanted bales of fabric, duvet covers or bedding.  The group in Lincolnshire have been contacted by a number of hospitals and care homes and the garments which have been made using either unwanted bales of fabric, duvet covers or bedding, are in high demand.   Anne said “we always feel a little helpless in these situations when we can do little for those on the frontline, and when I heard about this group I just had to get involved.  It is great to be able to put previously acquired skills to good use and being able to repurpose fabric is a bonus.   It adds a whole new dimension to the reuse and recycle waste hierarchy.  Repurposing fabric also brings the scrubs a touch of glamour.”
