UK based Green Warehouse shortlisted for 2013 European Best Recycled Plastic Product Award

Date Published: Thursday 31st October 2013

Three products will be competing for the 2013 Best Recycled Plastic Product title, including the innovative uBin from UK manufacturer Green Warehouse.

Not only is the uBin made with 100% recycled plastic, it’s also the first bin in the world made from 100% UK post-consumer plastic!  Green Warehouse manufacturing engineer Will Hayes has designed and manufactured the stylish uBin to encourage responsible recycling of rubbish in offices, schools, universities, hospitals and other typical working environments.

Will Hayes said ‘that a lot of effort behind the scenes has led to this product being developed so it is great to be given recognition for our work. We hope that demand for the product will help drive the value through the supply chain and enable more post-consumer plastic to be collected and recycled’.

Many big players in the world of plastic manufacturing had submitted products for the EPRO Best Recycled Product 2013 but Will’s uBin, already proving successful in the marketplace, is the only UK product to be nominated as one of the three finalists.

A key benefit of this product is that the material trail is so visible, with the plastic sourced a UK plastic reprocessor, who in turn sourced the material from waste management companies who collected it from UK householders.

Recoup CEO Stuart Foster said ‘I am so pleased that we have a UK entry shortlisted this year, particularly as it showcases an end market for post-consumer PP pots and tubs. Collecting material with limited or no end markets is pointless, so it is critical that these emerging markets gain the exposure, encouragement and support needed to continue innovating and developing sustainable long term product opportunities ’.

The other two shortlisted entries are VinyPlus, a facade profile produced using a combination of recycling material and PVC foil which doesn’t require maintenance ; and Eco-core, a recycled polyester fibre, which is made wholly from recycled plastic bottles.

The Best Recycled Product is an initiative by Epro, the European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations. Epro consists of seventeen members from fourteen different countries including Recoup from the UK.

The winner will be announced during the Identiplast conference in Paris on 28th November 2013. Identiplast is the 11th International Conference on the Recycling and Recovery of Plastics organized by PlasticsEurope.
