At their recent AGM, Recoup, the UK’s leading authority on plastics waste management, announced the appointment of John Simmons as the new CEO of the organisation. As part of the founding team and Recoups’ first CEO serving in the position for 11-years, John is certainly no stranger to the world of waste management, with many years of service in this sector.
Andrew Simmons, who is known to many in the recycling industry has stepped down as a result of his decision to relocate to Sydney, Australia with his wife. Andrew had been CEO of Recoup for the past 5-years. As well as a strong leader for Recoup, developing the role of the organisation in both the UK and internationally, Andrew has been at the heart of plastics recycling, working highly successfully with industry partners, local government and community groups with the wider aim of ‘maximising efficient plastics recycling’.
The Board noted its appreciation of his considerable effort during this period, thanked him for his commitment to the organisation, and wished him well in his new life in Australia. Andrew will continue his involvement with Recoup on a project basis.
With a strong team on board Recoup are now looking forward to continuing the development of plastics recycling, both in traditional fields (such as bottle recycling) and within the wider plastics remit to maintain pace with an increasing range of plastics related environmental topics.
John Simmons stated that “the team here at Recoup are preparing for an even busier year in 2007 with a continued drive to facilitate and develop plastic recycling opportunities from both domestic and commercial sources, alongside the development and sharing of knowledge within an increasingly diverse industry. This will encompass subjects such as biodegradables, WEEE, ELV, new technologies and sustainable packaging design. Another major focus as we move forward is to progress projects on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we aim to formulate and deliver a selection of working solutions for organisations.”
It was also announced that Recoup will deliver a number of conferences in 2007. These events will not only inform on key issues and their implications on material recovery and recycling, but through the wide audience that they plan to attract, provide valuable networking opportunities and the ability to gain an insight into other sectors involved in the supply, conversion, filling and retailing of plastic materials.
